Just back from... Costa Rica
Trip Duration: 9 days
Where You Stayed: Florblanca Resort
Travel Buddies: We traveled with our friends Austin and Carter Dandridge of Cobble Hill Digital! Austin and Carter came here on their honeymoon so it’s close to their hearts and a place they frequently visit. The boys surfed together everyday while Carter and I played with the kids in the tidal pools looking for crabs and collecting pretty shells.
Best Thing You Ate: Our favorite meal of the day was breakfast where we stayed, at the hotel’s restaurant Nectar…I loved the Gallo Pinto con Huevos. Towards the end of the trip, we got tired of eating the same things, so we ventured out to a restaurant close by called Tapas. It was amazing in both the decor and food! I loved the sangria and paella dish..YUM! We also had coconut water straight out of the coconut, which was a big hit for everyone and it really kept us hydrated in the sun.
Best Daytime Activity: We spent a lot of time hanging at the tidal pools and surfing at the beach by the resort.
Best Night Out: Dinner at Tapas— this restaurant is great and was just five minutes from our hotel.
Trip Highlight: The highlight of the trip, and something we’ve never done before, was a helicopter ride from the San Jose airport to Santa Teresa. Normally, this part of the trip is when we have to travel from the airport to Santa Teresa–and it’s often my least favorite because it takes so long. The helicopter ride was so fun and smooth and only took 29 minutes, versus the five hours if you drive, and it was so beautiful to see everything from above. Once we landed, it was a three minute car ride to get to Florblanca at sunset. It was spectacular… our girls were very excited!
Most Inspiring Aspect: The pura vida life…when you’re there, you just slow down and enjoy nature.
I wish I had… the energy to go to Hermosa Beach. We didn’t make it there, but I’ve heard the sunset there is amazing.
Favorite Store or Shopping Trip: The shopping in Costa Rica isn’t as grand as in other places, but the hotel’s spa had some great natural cosmetics, jewelry made by locals and Marysia swim! I also wish I could get this zinc sunscreen made by one of the restaurant employees in the U.S. She originally made it for her baby, it’s all natural and keeps your nose from burning, which is helpful because the sun there is so strong it’s definitely needed.
Why Costa Rica?: This was my tenth trip! Costa Rica’s raw beauty and Florblanca’s location is ideal for our family and a great escape from the busy-ness of home. We had surf, tidal pools and great locations to go snorkeling right in front of the hotel. The pool also has a shallow section which was perfect for the little ones; plus, the food is fresh and the drinks are yummy!
