I am so excited to have my dear friend and fellow mom entrepreneur, Nasiba Adilova, as the next Marysia Swim Muse. Nasiba is the founder of The Tot, a mom-centric eccomerce website that is a platform for mothers to find non-toxic, responsible, and fashionable products for themselves and their children. Having my own kids, I know how hard it can be to find accessible and healthy products that you can trust. I am inspired by Nasiba’s mission to create a safe space where mothers and experts can share this information.
See below for an interview with Nasiba and shop her favorite picks from the Marysia Spring 17 collection.
What Marysia Swim is…
The most comfortable and flattering swimwear. As a brand it is so much more. I love that Marysia incorporates kids and creates a whole family story in her collections. It is special and not many other brands are doing this.
When did you start The Tot and how did it come about?
When I became pregnant with my son, I was overwhelmed by the endless search for registry essentials, because there was no place online where I could find everything I wanted. So I spent months researching everything pregnancy related. Eventually, it got to the point where i thought, why not put all this knowledge to use and build a site I was personally looking for and could not find.
What is next for The Tot?
The Tot is still such a new company full of MomPreneurs and working mamas that are committed to bringing cleaner products to families all across the country. Our mission is to create an unbiased and trusted resource for mamas so we employ a network of real moms who test, review and write for us as well as real experts from pediatricians, nutritionists, lactation consultants, women’s health experts, and child psychologists that contribute for us in a meaningful way. We test everything ourselves for safety, cleanliness of ingredients, functionality and will not sell anything that has bent been tried and approved by us.
Moreover, we want The Tot to become a community where mamas can connect with one another and talk about their experiences or challenges. Most importantly, we want mothers to know what their options are and how to make educated choices when it comes to their consumer health and health of their babies. We want to empower women and shine the light on small businesses trying to create better and safer products so we want to give them a platform to do that.
Lastly, our hope is for The Tot to become a stamp of approval for the best and safest baby products in our market segment. We want to be a tightly curated one stop shop that moms across the world trust.
Best piece of advice for new working moms?
I always give a little piece of advice I received when I had my first baby boy, which is: listen to your heart and your intuition. Do not listen to all the advice you are going to receive from people telling you how to do things. You as a mother know what is right for your child!
Which charities are you passionate about?
I am involved with UNICEF and sit on their regional board of directors, as well as New Museum Artemis council which supports women artists. And my husband and I are also great supporters of a wonderful Dallas based charity event called Two x Two for Aids and Arts, which benefits Amfar and Dallas Museum of art.
Who do you admire and why?
I have always admired my mom, especially now during Mother’s Day I think back on how much she sacrificed for me and how hard she worked. She is an inspiration to me everyday.
Any Dallas favorites? Restaurants? Shops?
Of course The Tot at Highland Park Village and the brand new Tot Playhouse at Lovers Lane are my favorites! I also love Forty Five Ten, Grange Hall, Cabana, and Ten over Six. We also have fantastic Dallas based businesses like Sue Gragg precious jewels and the wonderful Bird Bakery. My favorite restaurant will be my husbands new place called Bullion with Michelin star chef Bruno Davailon, in downtown Dallas! For food, I also love Hillstones and Tie An in Dallas.
Kids travel essentials? Any packing tips?
My number one tip is to not overpack. We make bags with travel size toiletries and keep it set aside for next time we travel so that we don’t have to pack full size items. Always bring meds with you, and I take my homeopathy kit everywhere I go! Always pack a blanket for the airplane, my favorite is 12/12 from the Tot! We sell a fantastic travel essential called Doona Doona car seat. It is amazing because it has wheels!
